Special Needs

OHDELA provides a special-education program in accordance with current federal and state regulations and guidelines. The program is individualized to meet the unique needs of each child with a disability. These unique needs are met for each student in many ways:

  • Through one of several OHDELA curriculums, which can be modified to meet the student's specific educational needs.
  • By providing additional supplemental materials.
  • By providing access to the curriculum specialist, instructional teachers, and the special-education teacher.
  • By delivering related services that a student might need to efficiently and effectively participate in or access his/her specific special-education program.

OHDELA provides an educational evaluation for each student with a disability, and for students who are suspected of having a disability. These evaluations can be re-evaluations or initial evaluations. Initial evaluations are preceded by interventions, which attempt to address the child's academic concerns before moving on to a full psychological evaluation. OHDELA's Special Education Department recognizes the importance of providing specialized instruction for each child with a disability and works diligently to provide this instruction.
